3-Tiered Display Shelf
Design Statement:
Design and build simple piece of furniture using basic joinery.
3 Week Project - Fall 2025
Ideation Sketches
For this project I decided to make a small shelf for displaying small models and miscellaneous objects.
CAD Iteration & Technical Drawing
I chose to emphasize visibility and easy access to all three tiers of the shelf, utilizing the 40-60 rule
Construction
I chose to use cherry for the table tops, and walnut for the legs.
Last Steps
Assembly
I used a router to carve a channel on the front edge to catch objects from rolling off the shelf.
The table tops are sandwiched between the pieces of the legs, which have dowels going through.
After glue up, I hand planed the top of the legs. All wood is treated with Shellac for protection and bringing out the wood’s color.
